“Please, Miriam, I want some more!” Having sold every ticket in 2024, the iconic award-winning actress, TV personality and author Miriam Margolyes returns to the Pleasance EICC for the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, from 9-24 August with more characters, more Dickens, and more fascinating stories about the man behind the classics.

After beguiling with her love of Dickens, its then over to the audience to ask the questions in an unfiltered free-for-all of outrageous honesty, hilarious anecdotes and unapologetic opinions. The 84-year-old, whose energy and passion for Dickens remains undimmed, she laughs as she promises, “Same old c**t, even older but so enjoying the thought of another go with Mr. Dickens… and you. It could be the last time, but don’t bank on it.”

Born in Oxford and educated at Cambridge and now a dual UK and Australian citizen, Margolyes is a veteran of stage and screen, who has achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic. She was Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter franchise, while other film credits include Yentl, Little Shop of Horrors, End of Days, Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, Cold Comfort Farm and Magnolia.

Her most memorable TV credits include Life and Loves of a She Devil, Blackadder, The Girls of Slender Means, Oliver Twist, The History Man, Vanity Fair and Supply & Demand, while on stage her credits include Madame Morrible in both the London and Broadway productions of Wicked, Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit, Sir Peter Hall’s Los Angeles production of Romeo & Juliet, and her own award-winning, one-woman show, Dickens’ Woman.

Still working, Margolyes is stil to be seen as the Mother Superior in Call The Midwife and was the Voice of Meep in Doctor Who.

Margolyes & Dickens: More Best Bits runs at Pleasance @ The EICC Pentland, 9-24 August (not 18/21), 6pm. Running time 70 minutes. Tickets here.
