Gilmore Girls writer Stan Zimmerman and Mrs Kim head to EdFringe

Actor and writer Stan Zimmerman, the man who put words in the mouths of The Golden Girls, Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia, as well as writing episodes of the popular American comedy drama Gilmore Girls and Golden Girls is coming to the Edinburgh Fringe and bringing Mrs Kim, Emily Kuroda, with him.

Zimmerman’s new suicide prevention play, Right before I go, comes to the Scottish Capital direct from New York with an all-star cast including Kuroda and Wendie Malick, of Shrinking and Young Sheldon fame onstage alongside Zimmerman himself.

With a primetime spot at the Pleasance Dome the piece is a very personal show for Zimmerman, who explains, “After the suicide death of my good friend, Kevin Gill, I was at a loss about how to process this. Seeing so much shame around the topic, I decided to create a play in the vein of The Vagina Monologues, easily produced with actors on stools, reading the script from music stands. My hope is that this will create much needed discussion about a very complicated issue.”

Directed by Abigail Morris, Right before I go highlights the raw struggles of people in all walks of life who have died by suicide, using the real suicide notes of celebrities, veterans, bullied teens, those identifying as LGBTQ+, people who have experienced mental health issues, as well as those who have survived attempts.

Right before I go. has travelled across the USA, including a run in NYC at The Tank, often featuring star casting, and most recently attracting Vanessa Williams, Olly Alexander, Christine Taylor and Patrick Page. Further casting for the UK premiere will be announced shortly.

Producers Claire Feuille and Josh Dooley of Feuille Dooley Productions return to Edinburgh Festival Fringe following the success of last year’s hit musical I Was a Teenage She-Devil that transferred to The Other Palace. They are also co-producers of the Broadway production and North American tour of Operation Mincemeat.

Right before I go runs from 5-31 August at 3.35pm (1 hour) at Pleasance Dome, Queen Dome and is suitable for 14+
