Delighted to reveal the cast of Ships, by Mark Forrest, which receives its World Premiere this August at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Ships, which marks my return to directing, will star Sunny Sanghera as Connor and Gwen M Dolan as Alex, with Robert Hackney as Jack and Joe Gilday as Rob.
I’m looking forward to working with such a talented and exciting company of Scottish actors in this new play set in Leith and performed at Leith Arches from 11-15 August.
A raw, intimate psychological drama Ships is the story of two lost souls who collide in a world built on mistrust. Connor, a merchant seaman, spiralling after a violent incident at sea, returns home intent on self-destruction. Alex, a sharp-tongued barmaid, carrying grief and a destructive history, meets him with wit and wariness until a buried connection resurfaces.
Darkly funny, unflinching and thought-provoking this new work explores masculinity, race, mental health and the fragile possibility of redemption… but can love can survive when the lovers are drowning in their past?
