Newcastle panto favourites celebrate 20 years of laughter at the Theatre Royal

More than 80,000 tickets have already been sold for this year’s Aladdin at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal, where Danny Adams and Clive Webb, as the titular character and Mister Goose respectively, celebrate 20 years of being the Toon’s panto favourites.

This is Aladdin as it’s never been seen before; with a Tyneside twist and brand-new sets and costumes designed especially for the Theatre Royal. Producer, director and writer, Michael Harrison, says, “We’re absolutely delighted to see the return of Danny, Clive, Chris and Joe in a brand-new staging of Aladdin. Opening spectacular new pantomimes at the Theatre Royal is becoming somewhat of a tradition with the huge success of Pinocchio in 2023 and The Little Mermaid last year. Aladdin promises to be a Genie-us pantomime.”

Michael Harrison’s retelling of the legendary story is set in the Royal Kingdom of Pantomania, where a whole host of fairytale characters come together in a pantomime for the 21st century. Wicked witches meet dancing geese, colliding with one very magical flying carpet.

Chris Hayward once again dons the Dame’s frocks as Aladdin’s mum, Mother Goose, Joe McElderry returns as The Spirit of the Ring and Mick Potts is back too, this time as The Genie of the Lamp.

Joining them when the magic carpet lift‑offs for another glittering panto will be acclaimed West End leading lady Rachel Stanley as The Wicked Witch while Tyneside favourite, Wayne Smith, returns to the Theatre Royal as the irrepressible Old King Cole. Rising musical‑theatre star Billie‑Kay, meanwhile, makes her Newcastle panto debut as Princess Jasmine.

Chief Executive of Newcastle Theatre Royal, Marianne Locatori adds, “We’re thrilled to welcome Danny and Clive back to the venue for their 20th season. Many of our audiences have grown up watching pantomimes here, and they are a huge part of that tradition. We’re looking forward to being able to celebrate this milestone by welcoming audiences to watch a version of Aladdin unlike any they have ever seen before.”

Join your favourite stars as they embark on an adventure to find the magical lamp and see good triumph over evil, as only pantomime can.

Aladdin plays Newcastle Theatre Royal Tue 25 Nov 2025 – Sun 18 Jan 2026. Tickets here.
