SAY ‘I, DO’

Edinburgh Fringe show, One Hour Wedding, is looking for 19 couples to get married, live on stage, during their visit to the biggest arts festival in the world this August.

Yes, it’s time to get the confetti ready as Holy Matrimony gets a joyful, chaotic shake-up. Forget the presents, your presence is required at this high-stakes, crowd-built ceremony where audience members become the wedding planners and the clock is already ticking; Sixty minutes. One couple. Endless possibilities. What could possibly go wrong?

The brainchild of event producers Rachel Terry, who is also a florist, and Roz Pappalardo, who is also a registered marriage celebrant in Australia, this interactive, immersive theatrical event from R and E Productions relies the audience for everything; theme, music, vows and choreography. Everything is decided in real time by a collection of strangers turned co-conspirators, guaranteeing a ceremony that is as unpredictable as it is unforgettable.

With the engaged couple already having made the most important decision by turning up, the rest is a whirlwind hour of music, mayhem and surprising moments of connection. And if someone changes their mind on the day? Well… that’s kind of the show. Weddings are full of contingency plans, emotional surprises and last-minute pivots. Thankfully, Pappalardo and Terry have plenty of experience handling all three.

Roz & Rachel

Best friends for 15 years, Terry and Pappalardo reflect, “We love weddings. They’re simultaneously personal and, let’s be honest, a little bit performative. One Hour Wedding, hands the big decisions to a room full of strangers. The outcome? Chaotic, funny, and occasionally quite ridiculous, but also genuinely revealing about connections, choice and how people come together. Right now, when shared experience is more important than ever, we love the idea of inviting audiences not just to sit back, but to step in and make something together.”

So, if this sounds like your perfect wedding day and you want to try reducing the stress and cost while increasing the arts factor of your wedding, here’s how to register for a One Hour Wedding.

Go to www.randrproductions.com.au to register to save your preferred date between 5-23 August, 2026. R and R Productions will then arrange an online meeting with you and their official UK-based marriage celebrant with whom they are partnering to deliver the legal aspect of the show.

You must then go register your intent to marry HERE completing all of the required documents, including M10 form and celebrant and witness details form. You then need to contact the Edinburgh Registrars to find out how they want you to submit them (e.g. in-person or by post) which must be done at least 29 days before the wedding date. You should then collect the marriage schedule, usually in person, from the registrar’s office.

On the day of your wedding you will report to The Friesian, Bristo Square, at the allocated time with friends and family – who can buy tickets HERE. R and R Productions will conduct the wedding with the audience making all the decisions, apart from the legal stuff and the fact you want to marry each other. R and R Productions’ UK-based Celebrant will also help lodge the paperwork post the show. Please note there will be paperwork lodgement costs.

Good luck!
