They’re used to cracking quick-fire gags, the cornier the better, so we asked the cast of Edinburgh’s Cinderella to share their favourite pantomime gags with us. Which one will make you laugh the most?

Allan Stewart, in his 26th year as Dame in Edinburgh, plays the magical Faerie May in this year’s panto at the Festival Theatre | “What’s the difference between Brussels sprouts and bogies? You can’t get kids to eat Brussels sprouts.”

Grant Stott, Scotland’s best panto baddie, is the wicked stepmother Hibernia Fortuna in Cinderella, his 30th pantomime | “My mate asked me to put money on a horse called Landfill. It came in last. It was a rubbish tip.”

Now in his fourth year as one of Edinburgh’s panto pals, you’ll find Jordan Young bringing in the laughs as Cinder’s best pal Buttons, this year | “Knock! Knock! Who’s there? Europe. Europe who? No, You’re a poo.”

Ian Stuart Robertson, Clare Gray and Gail Watson
Will Callan and Amber Sylvia Edwards

As wicked step-sister Vindicta Fortuna, Clare Gray’s nicely nasty, funny performance keeps her late father Andy Gray’s legacy alive in Cinderella | “Finding my lost luggage at the airport has been a nightmare. You think it would be easy, but that’s not the case.”

Her on stage sibling, Manipulata Fortuna, is played by River City star Gail Watson, returning to Edinburgh’s favourite panto for the first since 2001 | “What happened to the big trumpet tree? The Cooncil came and rootootootooted it oot!”

Amber Sylvia Edwards is making her Edinburgh panto debut in the title role of Cinderella | “Who are you?” “I’m fine thanks, hoo’s yersel?”

Will Callan is Prince Charming in also his first Edinburgh pantomime | “Why was Cinderella such a terrible footballer? Because she had a pumpkin as a coach.”

Ian Stuart Robertson is Baron Hardup: “I’m just breaking in a new pair of pants, these are my Tupperware knickers. They’re not very comfortable, but they keep what you’ve got fresh…”

Let us know which one makes you laugh the most or share your own favourite panto joke in the comments?

Cinderella runs at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh, until 31 December. Tickets here.
