When and where to see Lee Mead in Barnum, the circus musical

Roll up! Roll up!

Step right up for the circus as Bill Kenwright Ltd prepares to tour Barnum, the classic Broadway musical celebrating the life of the world’s greatest showman, PT Barnum. Originally produced at the Watermill Theatre, the major new touring production will open at Theatre Royal Windsor on 3 February ahead of a 26 week UK and Ireland tour.

Enter the dazzling world of PT Barnum, where imagination and ambition know no bounds. Hand in hand with wife Charity, Barnum’s life and career twist and turn as he schemes and dreams his way to headier heights.

West End favourite and TV star Lee Mead will take centre stage as the legendary PT Barnum for the first part of the tour, with West End star Matt Rawle reprising his critically acclaimed performance as Barnum for the autumn dates, starting at Newcastle Theatre Royal on 12 August.

The company also features Monique Young as Charity Barnum, Penny Ashmore as Jenny Lind, Dominique Planter as Joice Heth, and Fergus Rattigan as General Tom Thumb. They are joined by Elena Buck, Gianpaolo Candelaria, Eamonn Cox, James Gill, Jessica Jolleys, Kevin Oliver Jones, Emma Jane Morton, Sophie Precious Muringu, Lennin Nelson-McClure, Emily Odunsi, André Rodrigues, Ben Scott, Laura Sillett, Tom Sowinski, Tom Sterling and Niki Tsonopoulou.

With an extraordinary ensemble cast of actor-musicians, acrobats and circus acts, Barnum is boasts music multi-award winner Cy Coleman, Michael Stewart’s lyrics and Mark Bramble’s book and includes the classic show tunes Join the Circus, Colours of My Life, Come Follow the Band and Love Makes Such Fools of Us All.

Barnum first took the UK by storm at the London Palladium with Michael Crawford making theatrical history with a death-defying nightly tightrope walk across the stage… Mead and Rawle will follow him onto the tightrope.

The production is directed by Jonathan O’Boyle and choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse.
